Summary

The First Congressional District of Georgia

The first C.D. of Georgia encompasses the entire Georgia coastline, from Savannah to Kings Bay. It includes much of the southeastern part of the state, sea islands, rural and urban areas, and is home to four military installations and two ports.

Home to Four Military Bases

Georgia's 1st District is home to four military bases: Hunter Army Airfield, Moody Air Force Base, Fort Stewart, and King's Bay Naval Submarine Base. These four bases support U.S. national security and define the 1st District's contribution to the United States military.

Fort Stewart is a United States Army post covering 280,000 acres, primarily in Liberty and Bryan Counties. Combined with its subordinate base, Hunter Army Airfield, it is home to 21,000 soldiers and over 29,000 family members. It is the home of the 3rd Infantry Division and is a leading mobilization station for Army units preparing for deployment, as well as two-week National Guard annual training.

Hunter Army Airfield is located in Savannah and is a subordinate installation to Fort Stewart. It is the home of the 3rd Infantry Division’s Aviation Brigade. The runway and apron, combined with a 72,000 sq ft Arrival/Departure Airfield Control Group Facility and nearby railhead, allow the 3rd Infantry Division and local reserve and National Guard units to deploy soldiers and cargo worldwide.

Moody Air Force Base is a USAF installation near Valdosta, 30 miles north of the Florida border. Moody is the home of the 23rd Wing, the 93rd Air Ground Operations Wing, and boasts the nation’s largest A-10C fighter group. It is home to 5,500 military and civilian personnel. Units based out of Moody contribute to air-ground operations training and rescue operations all over the eastern United States. The 23d Wing consists of "first in" combat search and rescue, close air support, forward air control, interdiction, and force protection Airmen who conduct worldwide operations in support of U.S. national security interests and the Global War on Terrorism.

King's Bay Naval Submarine Base is a United States Naval base located adjacent to the town of St Mary's in Camden County, about 38 miles from Jacksonville, FL. The base is the U.S. Atlantic Fleet's home port for U.S. Navy Ohio Class submarines armed with Trident missile nuclear weapons. The base is home to the USS Florida (SSGN-728) and USS Georgia (SSGN-729). It covers roughly 16,000 acres, of which 4,000 acres are protected wetlands.

Lisa's Vision for Georgia's First

34383465_2200933183256418_480331691932516352_n.jpg

Lisa believes it's important that every Georgian in District One is properly represented in Congress. This is why our campaign is on the ground and traveling to every part of the district to hear from those left behind under the current leadership.

What Lisa has discovered: There is wide support for issues like Medicare For All, $15/hr minimum wage, and environmental protection for Georgia's 100 miles of undisturbed coastline. These are issues that properly represent the common story among our constituents, and it's up to us to come together and make our leadership reflect this.

Now is the time for us to stand up for the issues that impact our daily lives. We are tired of worrying if we will be able to afford health care; or if, after honorably serving our country, we will be employable. We are frustrated that we work full-time and still can’t pay our bills, and that higher education is only within our reach if we indebt ourselves with crushing student loans.

I will fight for policies that serve the needs of hard-working families and to regain the funding we need to realize our potential. Together, we will make our district one that works for all of us, where no one gets left behind. Each person deserves to live with dignity, opportunity, security, and freedom.

Help Lisa properly represent the people of Georgia's First District
